TypeWars / TypeBlaster

TypeBlaster: the space typing shooter

Word ships are falling. Every letter you type is a shot. Clear the wave before they reach your keycap cannon.

Score 0Wave 1Combo ×0

Word ships incoming.

Type a ship's word to lock on and blast it. Backspace drops your lock. Esc pauses.

Why a shooter makes you type faster

A timed test asks you to type a line someone else chose. A shooter makes you choose: which word is the real threat, which can wait. That constant triage trains the thing speed tests can't, recognising a whole word at a glance and committing to it without looking down.

The combo multiplier rewards clean streaks, so accuracy pays even when the screen is crowded. When you want pure numbers, switch to Word Blitz.

Controls

  • Letters — lock on and fire.
  • Backspace — drop your current lock.
  • Esc — pause. Clicking away also pauses.
  • On a phone, tap the playfield to bring up the keyboard.

Questions players ask

How do I play TypeBlaster?

Word ships drift down toward your cannon. Type the first letter of any word to lock onto it, finish the word to blast it. If a ship reaches the bottom you lose a shield; lose all of them and the game ends.

Which ship gets targeted?

When you type a letter with no lock, the cannon picks the lowest ship whose word starts with that letter, the most urgent threat. Backspace releases the lock so you can switch targets.

How is the score calculated?

Each destroyed word earns 10 points per letter, multiplied by your combo tier (every five clean kills in a row adds one to the multiplier), plus a bonus for shooting ships early, high on the screen. A wrong key breaks the combo.

Does it get harder?

Yes. Each wave sends more ships, spawns them faster and moves them quicker. From wave 3 words get longer, and from wave 6 they switch to the hard list. Every third wave restores one shield.

Is it like ZType or Typing of the Dead?

It belongs to the same family of typing shooter games: words as enemies, keys as ammunition. TypeBlaster is our own take, drawn as keycaps, and records your WPM and accuracy so the game doubles as practice.
