Pick your battle

Five ways to turn typing practice into a match you actually want to win.

Ranked tiers keep races close

A race you win by half a lap teaches nothing. TypeWars reads your last ten rounds and seats you against bots in your tier, so the finish line stays in doubt. Climb from Bronze to Legend by lifting your ten-round average, not by one lucky sprint.

Want a real human? Finish a race and send the challenge link: your friend races a ghost of you on the same passage, from any device.

Questions players ask

Is TypeWars free?

Yes. Every mode is free to play in the browser with no sign-up. Your scores and personal bests are saved only in your own browser.

What makes it different from a plain typing test?

A typing test measures you once. TypeWars puts the same measurement inside a game: rivals to overtake in a race, ships to shoot down in TypeBlaster, a clock to beat in Word Blitz, and elimination pressure in Battle Royale. Every mode still reports honest net WPM and accuracy.

Can I play typing games with friends?

Two ways. After any race, tap "Challenge a friend" to send a link; they race your ghost on the exact same passage. Or open Tournament and run a bracket for up to eight people taking turns on one keyboard.

Who are the other racers?

Bots paced to a ranked tier (Bronze through Legend) or matched to your recent average, so races stay close. Their speed wobbles a little so the lead changes hands.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes, every mode accepts the on-screen keyboard. For real speed a physical keyboard is best, and TypeBlaster is most fun on a laptop or desktop.

How is WPM calculated?

We use the standard convention that one "word" equals five characters, including spaces. Net WPM counts only correctly typed characters, so mistakes you leave behind lower your score. The WPM calculator page explains it step by step.
